New Developments at the Dictionary of Mormon Biography

By April 12, 2014

I thought I’d write up a quick note on the status of the growing Dictionary of Mormon Biography (DMB).  We have welcomed a few more editors in the last few months and our database continues to expand.

Also, I have been tracking the digitization progress of the Church History Library (CHL) for the last couple of years and have finally created a page on the DMB blog to showcase this. It’s a live spreadsheet where I’m logging what materials are available via the web through the CHL’s catalog. Check it out:

We now have around 90 biographical entries in the wiki with bibliographies, links to digitized primary sources, and external data sources (FamilySearch, Find A Grave, WorldCat, LOC, etc.). We also are creating topical pages with bibliographies related to missions, congregations, and settlements. I’m really proud of the work we’ve done thus far and am eager to see the project expand.

So here’s one more invitation to register for an account and to begin contributing in whatever way you can to this community resource. Join now!

  2. Solid work. If I don’t find the time (which I probably won’t), I’m going to have my kids build a python web scraper this summer to automatically list and organize the digitized collections.
