MHA Deadline Quickly Approaching

By November 12, 2018

The Mormon History Association’s annual conference will be in SaltLake City, June 7-10, 2018. The topic for next year’s conference is “Isolation and Integration” and the deadline for proposals is this week—Thursday the 15th. Find the Call for Papers here.

See the Call for Papers for detailed instruction for what to include with your proposal. Don’t miss the language at the end of the CFP for important instructions: “Full session proposals should also include the session title and a brief abstract outlining the session’s theme, along with a confirmed or suggested chair and/or commentator, if applicable. MHA strongly encourages individuals to seek to organize panels that reflect diversity of panelists in terms of gender, institutional, social, ethnic, and religious background.”

Have you been thinking about your proposal? Already turned it in? Still looking for people to present with? This is a great place for networking.

Here are a few people we’re aware of that are looking for other presenters:
Allison Kelly [UVA PhD] is working on a proposal on the Relief Society and the Welfare Plan.

Rebekah Clarke is also looking for someone. She is doing a paper on the dynamics surrounding the National Council of Women, with another scholar focusing on the suffrage organizations and polygamy.

As is Ardis Parshall who is working on research methods (researching LDS records when there is no single obvious source, using Century of Black Mormons as her example.)

Please comment if you’re in need or you know someone else who is and can be helpful.

Good luck all.

  1. Stephen Fleming and I are putting together a panel on the Great Apostasy. My paper will look at the Apostasy through the lens of agnotology, and Stephen’s paper will look at Plato, Platonism and the Great Apostasy. Our moderator will be Fr. Daniel Dwyer. If anyone has a paper,on some aspect of apostasy, specific, or general, grand or personal, please comment below. Thank you!

  2. Hello, Mormon History People. Stephen Fleming and I are looking to put together a panel on the idea of Apostasy. My paper will address Apostasy through the lens of agnotology, and Stephen’s paper will look at Platonism and Apostasy. Fr. Daniel Dwyer will be our moderator. We just need a third paper! If anyone out there has a paper that they think would work well, please comment below, and I will get in touch with you ASAP.
