We must be in the “dog days of summer,” as the blog has been rather slow of late. But I thought I’d point our readers to a great series that I just became aware of, called “The Future of Mormonism,” over at Patheos. It has several posts discussing different aspects of Mormonism, written by prominent scholars and bloggers. They’re all worth checking out:
Margaret Young and Darius Gray: The Colorful LDS Future
Brian Hales: The Future of “Mormon Fundamentalism”
Boyd Peterson: Mormon Democrats at a Crossroads
Aaron Reeves: Europe and Mormon Growth
Neylan McBaine: The Future of Mormon Motherhood
Armand L. Mauss: Mormonism in the New Century
Tresa Edmunds: The Next Generation of Mormon Feminists
Kristine Haglund: Mormon Publishing, the Internet, and the Democratization of Information
Philip Barlow: Mormons and the Bible in the 21st Century
Blake Ostler: The Challenges of (Non-Existent?) Mormon Theology
Richard T. Livingston: Mormon Studies: Catching the New Wave
Seth Perry: A World Religion (Eventually)
In addition to the excellent selection listed above, a bunch more articles will be added to the lineup early next week (incl. Jan Shipps, Michael Otterson, David Stewart, etc…..)

I’m still waiting for Heinlein’s LDS temples to show up on the moon. Baptisms for the dead in 1/6 gravity!

Thanks for the heads up on these links, David. I’ve felt the articles over at Patheos have been uneven at best, but several of these look great and now I’m wondering if I’m simply allowing a few articles I found less than stellar to overshadow a much larger sampling of better articles.

Here’s the links to Elder Cook’s and Michael Otterson’s articles in case anyone missed them:

I remember hearing a quote attributed to Parley P. Pratt: “When you approach another religion, take of your shoes, for the ground whereon you stand may be holy.”
Can anyone verify whether this is accurate? I don’t want to use it if it is just a Mormon myth.
Thanks,
Bryce

Bryce, thanks for stopping by the JI. I am not familiar with that quote (hopefully some of my fellows who know PPP better than I can help here), but from the little I do know about PPP and his writings, and his sometimes scathing approach to others’ faiths, I rather doubt this to be an authentic PPP statement. However, I would be happily proven wrong.

Thanks. I’m glad I’ve been cautious about promulgating it.
