Dear Friends of BYU Studies,

Over the past six years, Dr. Steven C. Harper has done a remarkable job leading BYU Studies as its editor in chief. We are grateful for his thoughtful leadership and inspiring publication record of BYU’s premier academic journal under his leadership. Having completed two, three-year terms as editor in chief, Steve looks forward to returning to his campus responsibilities as professor of Church history and doctrine at BYU beginning fall semester 2025.

BYU Studies publishes scholarship that is aligned with the purposes of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the mission of his Church. BYU Studies is responsible to publish scholarship primarily aimed at supporting the Church’s religious educators who are well positioned to bless the rising generation of Latter-day Saints. To this end, the editor in chief oversees the human and material resources devoted to publishing print, digital, and audio publications and sharing them with the primary and other audiences. In consultation with the Academic Vice President’s Office, the editor in chief decides what to publish, overseeing the peer review process with counsel from an editorial board of advisors who serve voluntarily at the discretion of the editor in chief.

We are currently seeking nominations for Steve’s successor at BYU Studies to begin in August 2025. Promising candidates will be well educated, experienced in leading teams, and aligned with university and Church leaders, just like Steve has been throughout his tenure.
