Call for Papers: The LDS Church During the Joseph F. Smith Era

By September 20, 2011

CALL FOR PAPERS
CHURCH HISTORY SYMPOSIUM
JOSEPH F. SMITH ERA
MARCH 2?3, 2012

Jointly sponsored by the Department of Church History and Doctrine of Brigham Young University and the Church History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joseph F. Smith, the sixth President of the Church and the last to have personally known the Prophet Joseph Smith, served for 52 years as a General Authority, including as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, as a counselor to four Church Presidents, and as President of the Church from 1901 to 1918. Joseph F. Smith?s tenure as Church President was a key transitional period in Church history. We invite paper proposals that consider the life, teachings, and family of Joseph F. Smith and the social, political, religious, and historical developments during his tenure as President.

By October 31, 2011, e-mail a one-page proposal summarizing the paper?s purpose, themes, and sources, along with a brief vita, to churchhistorysym2012@gmail.com. Authors will be notified of acceptance to present at the symposium by November 18, 2011. Following the symposium, a select number of authors will be notified to submit their completed paper by April 6, 2012, for peer review and possible publication by the Religious Studies Center.

The symposium will be held on the afternoon and evening of Friday, March 2, at the LDS Conference Center Theater in Salt Lake City and the following morning, Saturday, March 3, at the BYU Harman Building\Conference Center in Provo.

Questions can be addressed to members of the 2012 Church History Symposium Committee:

  4. Oops. That’s embarrassing on many levels.

  5. The conference has been sponsored by BYU in the past; this is the first year that the Church History Department and BYU will be co-sponsoring the conference.

  6. Dearest Permabloggers, I would appreciate an email to alert me when there are Calls for Papers or Conferences so that I can publicize them at MormonConferences.org. Sometimes I don’t visit this web site every day (which is a shame and a sin, I know). If your joy is great with one attendee, how much greater will it be with many?
