Historic Sites Curator

PURPOSES

The Church History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is looking for a historic sites curator to serve as a digital operations specialist. As a standing member of the division’s visitor experience team, this individual will assist in extending the reach of historic sites significant in Church history for a global audience.

This is a full-time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In order of importance. Includes percentage of time spent on each.

  1. Digital Strategy (60%)
  2. Lead project teams in creating and implementing a digital strategy for improving online visibility and reputation for the Church’s historic sites.
  3. Coordinate research and write new content for division websites, including articles about the historic sites program. Target audiences include Church leaders and members, headquarters departments, and individuals not affiliated with the Church.
  4. Implement and evaluate new Web and social media experiences based on relevant analytics. Audiences expect Church history to be timely, accessible, relevant, compelling, and accurate.
  5. Strengthen strategic, collaborative relationships with other Church departments and with contractors and vendors by participating on teams that require a digital operations perspective.
  6. Routine Digital Operations (30%)
  7. Serve as the primary contact for site leaders and missionaries to resolve issues related to computer hardware and software in use at historic sites.
  8. Manage updates to historic sites websites and social media (Facebook) pages.
  9. Other Duties (10%)
  10. Develop new skills, abilities, and knowledge by keeping current on digital operations and related professions, participating in professional seminars and conferences, and reading professional literature.
  11. Perform other tasks according to project needs and individual capabilities and interests. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant master’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, including customer service skills, writing, and oral presentation skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, listening to people and attending to detail.
  • Ability to work as an independent contributor and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Dependability and effective time management, able to work with competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and natural curiosity. 
  • Conceptual understanding of metadata and its uses.
  • Knowledge of Latter-day Saint history and familiarity with sources is a plus.

WORTHINESS QUALIFICATION

Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
